Harry Melling Says Not Being Recognized From Harry Potter Movies Is A Blessing In Disguise

Harry Melling, who formerly starred in the Harry Potter franchise, is incredibly grateful that no one recognizes him from his part in the fantasy movie. The 31-year-old hardly bears resemblance to the way he appeared in Harry Potter, and now that he has starred in three different Netflix projects, Melling doesn’t mind.

Reportedly, Melling starred in The Old Guard, The Devil All The Time, as well as The Queen’s Gambit. Melling, 31, said to reporters from People Magazine that he hoped everyone didn’t get sick of seeing him on the screen.

Melling went on to comment on the coronavirus pandemic, arguing how strange it has been. On the one hand, it’s been unfortunate that people can’t go out and live their lives as they normally would, but on the other, it’s been great for Netflix and similar forms of entertainment.

Regarding Melling’s history in the Harry Potter franchise, Melling explained how he lost a ton of weight after starring in one of the movies, as a result, when he was recast in Deathly Hallows Part One, he had to wear a fat suit to accommodate for the weight loss.

According to Harry, he never consciously tried to lose weight; it was something that just happened as a consequence of going to drama school and changing his lifestyle naturally. Melling added that one of the “blessings of that sort of stage in my life was the fact that I didn’t get recognized.”

Harry said it was a great thing for him because he was able to star in the incredibly successful film series, but also get a new start in other movies as well.

Ever since finishing his stint in Harry Potter, Melling has gone on to work in films like The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs and The Lost City of Z, among other projects.

But it wasn’t until 2020 when Melling really ramped up his appearances in movies, including the aforementioned three films mentioned above, like The Old Guard. As for his change in character in The Old Guard, Harry says it was fun to play an evil person for once, although, he doesn’t like to think of himself in that way.
